About Project VIA

Project VIA is a project to support research activities by art mediators in the field of visual arts, jointly carried out by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service since 2013. The goal of this project is to help Korean visual art curators and programmers acquire the requisite knowledge and capabilities to propel themselves onto the global scene and become meaningful participants in international exchange in the field. Project Via is intended to provide a stepping stone to career mediators in visual arts on their road to the international stage, contribute to building their curatorial and programming capabilities and serve them as networking channel.

Korea Arts Management Service

    The Korea Arts Management Service is a foundation established under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the mission of building capacity for self-sustained growth in Korea’s arts and culture sector, strengthening its international competitiveness and promoting global exchange. Activities carried out by the Korea Arts Management Service include providing funding for tour performances by performing arts troupes, at overseas locations, supporting research on visual arts, holding international conferences and workshops, offering consulting on arts management and conducting educational programs.

  • [Visual Arts Planning Team] International Relations Division

    To stimulate international exchange in the field of visual arts, the isual Arts Planning Team is currently carrying out the following activities aimed at discovering new Korean art content, developing manpower and constructing an international cooperation framework.

    1. Compilation of catalogues raisonnés and creation of digital archives of senior Korean artists’ works

    Training of fine art appraisers
    Support for research on basic appraisal data
    Support for the publication of catalogues raisonnés (support for the publication of catalogues raisonnés of deceased artists’ works and the creation of digital archives of senior artists’ works);
    Holding of international conferences.

    2. Project ViA : Research support program for visual art professionals

    Support for participation in programs overseas
    Support for participation in research projects.

    3. The Artro : online platform for Korean Contemporary Art The Artro

    Support for the overseas publication of discussions and theories about Korean art
    Support for the translation of discussions and theories about Korean art into international languages.

    4. Other : Organization and operation of programs for international participants and other international events

    About the institute: Established in 1931, the museum boasts a collection of over 22,000 works by famous artists such as Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns and Jeff Koons.

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
    (MET)

    About the institute: Founded in 1870, the MET is the largest museum in New York. The Met Breuer openedin 2016 as a museum of modern and contemporary art. The official website was renewed to provide the digital generation with an online museum experience.

  • FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art
    Contemporain)

    About the institute :Founded in Paris in 1974, fiac [Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain] brings together modern and contemporary art galleries. In 2016, the FIAC brought together 186 galleries, originating from 27 countries.

    About the institute: Ars Electronica is an international media art festival launched in 1979 to promote the convergence of art, society and technology.

    About the institute: Biennale Jogja, regarded as a platform that creates new discourse in contemporary Asianart, started in 1988. The Yogyakarta Biennale Foundation was established in 2011 to oversee and manage the event.
