Last for One One Dream

Lincoln Center Out of Doors & Dancing in the Streets present:
Hip Hop Generation Next
Damrosch Park Bandshell, NYC
2009. 8. 6 (Thu.) 7:30pm

One Dream is an autobiographical story about the growth and success of “Last for One,” winners of the 'Battle of the Year,' the greatest b-boy competition in the world. It depicts how they overcame prejudices and difficulties in their hometown, their process of correcting misconceptions to illuminate the truth of B-boy street dance through the fundamental elements of dance, as well as the transformation of the dance through its interaction with diverse cultures. It is a new type of performance that takes the form of an omnibus show, and is a tailored performance that is suitable for all projects, such as commercial films or gala concerts.

Last for One was formed in 1997 when some teenage boys from Jeonju (Jeollabukdo) began to participate in dance performance events. The group became famous after taking first prize in a number of Korean dance contests. With their winning performance at the Battle of the Year - considered the World Cup of B-boy dance - held in Germany in 2005, the group showed the world the dance skills of Korea, and developed into a world-class B-boy crew. Afterwards, they participated in a range activities, were featured in commercials and broadcasts, and their influence widened in pop culture. In August, 2007, they performed at the Edinburgh Fringe (Edinburgh, Scotland), where they received high praise from major international press.

[Review]
"Spin Odyssey" is the latest example of how a style that many might consider an 80‘s leftover, as forgettable as leg warmers, is being transformed into an international art form... South Korea is at the forefront of the new wave of break-dance, or b-boy, artistry. - New York Times -

 Lee In Soo Dance Project Move On

Lincoln Center Out of Doors & Dancing in the Streets present;
Hip Hop Generation Next
Damrosch Park Bandshell, NYC
2009. 8. 6 (Thu.) 7:30pm

Move On is a hip hop-contemporary dance work that explores the nature of hip hop as contemporary performance art. The work does not merely add contemporary dance gestures to hip hop, but rather shows unconventional movement and choreographic skills that accentuate the unique differences between hip hop and contemporary dance in terms of rhythm, breathing methods, and physicality. The central theme of Move On focuses on everyday relationships, looking at how we stretch out our hands to people in various situations. We do so when we meet someone for the first time, ask for help, feel glad to see someone, or simply feel happy. A relationship starts when that someone finally responds and takes our hands. The work is inspired by that simple but significant gesture of reaching out, highlighting the relationships, encounters, and the beginnings and ends that we go through in our lives.

LEE In-soo Dance Project was established in 2008 when LEE In-soo, who had made his name by sweeping the awards of various hiphop dance competitions in Korea, launched a contemporary dance company to capture the expressiveness and delicacy of dance. He has given notable performances at a number of prestigious events, including the Seoul Performing Arts Festival and the National Dance Competition. He also went on to perform with Emio Greco & PC Dance Company in the Netherlands, and at the Vienna Impulstantz, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Adelaide Festival and Theatre de la Ville in Paris.

[Review]
In Soo Lee, formerly of the Emio Greco Dance Company, created the performance by using the maximum energy and timing that can be elicited from the body to form the movements and images. The performance is the greatest reciprocation between the dancers' concentration, sweat, breath and movement, and the audience. - Yonhap News-
