20112012 International Residency Program for Korea Traditional Performing Arts Application Guide:

Support for the Discovery of Outstanding Overseas Residency Projects

 


  In order to promote and disseminate outstanding examples of the Korean traditional arts overseas, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service are accepting applications for traditional arts overseas residency program support. We look forward to active interest and participation from specialists in Korean traditional arts and performance.

Outstanding residency projects developed by artists' groups or individual artists are selected to receive support.

Projects Eligible for KAMS 2011 International Residency Program for Korea Traditional Performing Arts

Support for Residencies with Cooperating Overseas Institutions: This program solicits applications from arts groups and artists traveling to collaborating overseas institutions designated by KAMS. Applications are scheduled to be accepted in the second half of 2010 and first half of 2011.

       Taiwan (Taipei Artists Village, Taipei National University of the Arts)

       Germany (ufaFabrik)

       Brazil (Casa do Nucleo, Mercado Cultural)

       U.S. (World Music Institute, etc.)

Support for the Discovery of Outstanding Overseas Residency Projects: Support is provided for those selected as the most outstanding residency programs developed and planned by groups and individuals in collaboration with overseas residency institutions.

 


 

2. Project Goals

   To promote and disseminate outstanding examples of the Korean traditional arts to countries overseas through the operation of traditional arts residency programs

   To foster outstanding specialists in the traditional arts by providing the opportunity to experience overseas culture and engage in artistic activity

 


3. Application Criteria

   Applicants should be Korean performing arts groups and individuals working in the traditional and tradition-based arts.

    Favorable consideration will be given to:

    - Awardees and/or selectees from Culture Ministry-sponsored original traditional arts production projects (GUGAKFM's "21st Century Korean Music Project," Bukchon Changwoo Theater's "Cheonchamanbyeol Concert")

    - Winners of the minister's award or higher at national traditional arts competitions (limited to awardees from last three years)

    - Groups selected for the Performing Arts Market in Seoul's "PAMS Choice" program

 


4. Ineligible Applicants

   The following are not eligible for evaluation:

    - National or public (state/province, city, county) groups or groups affiliated with or funded by national or public institutions

    - Elementary, middle, and high school students, or any groups made up of same.

    - Groups operated by schools, academies, religious organizations, or friendship organizations

    - Projects supported by state funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism or by the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Foundation

    - Corporate or corporate-affiliated projects that are determined to be intended more for commercial ends

    - Projects with confirmed support from other public support institutions, including Arts Council Korea, Korea Foundation, or local arts and culture foundations

 


5. Important Information

   Once submitted, documents and materials will not be returned. No substitutions of or additions to the application materials and documents are possible once the submission period has ended.

   Individuals should be capable of communicating comfortably in English or the local language. For groups, teams of less than five members may apply; at least one member should be capable of communicating comfortably in English or the local language.

   One group may apply for support for more than one project. However, as a rule, support is given for only one project for a single group.

   In the event of non-fulfillment during the project period specified in the application, support will be rescinded.

   Support will be rescinded for any projects with application materials deemed to contain false information. Such projects will be excluded from any project support by KAMS.

6. Scale of Support and Selection Benefits

   This project is restricted to residency support. No additional performance fees are provided.

   For items requiring support from the residency institution, supporting materials must be included in the documents submitted during application (see in "Required Documents" section).

   One Korean-language copy of detailed plan for each project (free narrative form)

One copy each of residency institution invitation and confirmation letter in local language and Korean translation

One copy of documentation for residency institution and support details

One DVD showing performing arts activity

One copy of business registration or representative's resident registration

One copy of foreign language competency evaluation scores/certificate (for at least one group member)

Please include "Overseas Residency Application/Your Group's Name" in the header of the email.

   Optional Documents

    - Information about project results, including performance programs, news articles, and reviews

      For Korean-language materials, please include a translated copy in English or the local language of the residency institution.

   Method of Announcement: Notice on KAMS web site, personal contact to selected group

   The date of the final announcement is subject to change depending on the review procedures for each project. All changes will be announced on the KAMS web site.
