Festival directors and producers offer advice on Europe’s world music festivals that is appropriate for Korean performing arts organizations, and discuss how to prepare for successful overseas tours. Patrick de Groote, who is a director of EFWMF (the European Federation of World Music Festivals), director of SFINKS festival, and has visited Korea during PAMS 2008, gives an overview of the research, preparation and communication dynamics involved in participation in World Music Festivals in Europe. Mark Ringwood, who is a producer of Roots around the World and has successfully presented traditional Korean music performance groups in England, provides an overview of the world music market in England and shares his expertise on preparing for tours, working with agents, etc.

[Forum] World Music

This forum on world music will shed light on the reasons for the continued interest in various types of world music in Europe, with comments from renowned European theater and festival professionals and an open dialogue on the potential for the presence of Korean music in Europe. The following speakers are scheduled: Charlie Gillett, an executive producer of BBC Radio World Service, who is making a great contribution to introducing world music to Europe; Peter Hvalkof, who has been programming the world music section of Roskilde Festival, a large internationally-renowned festival; Olivier Delsalle, who is mapping out programs for Korean traditional performing arts in France; and Maarten Rovers, an artistic director of RASA Theatre, who has a great interest in the entry of Korean traditional performance into Europe.
